New Maui Police Equipment Helps Bring Closure to Families

WAILUKU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Maui Police Department has new equipment that is helping reunite families with lost loved ones, and it is already proven to be successful.

Maui police evidence specialist Jasmine Davis Ramirez looks forward to going to work every day because she now gets to utilize a new instrument that helps bring closure to families throughout Maui County.

“Any time we have an unidentified human remains, we can generate a DNA profile from that decedent,” Ramirez said.

MPD first used the rapid DNA technology, ANDE, during the 2023 wildfires.
